Gladiator 2″ is set to recommence filming in Malta starting next week.

The follow-up to “Gladiator” is set to recommence filming in Malta on December 4, according to sources cited by Variety. Production on the historical epic faced delays earlier when actors initiated a strike in July. However, following the November 8 announcement of a tentative three-year contract agreement between SAG-AFTRA, the actors union, and studios, various film projects, including the “Gladiator” sequel, are now able to progress.
The actors’ strike, lasting 118 days, concluded after studios granted the union unprecedented safeguards regarding the use of artificial intelligence in film and television productions, alongside a historic pay increase.
Starring Paul Mescal, the Oscar-nominated lead from “Aftersun,” along with Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal of “The Last of Us” fame, the “Gladiator” sequel also features returning cast members Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi from the original 2000 film. Notably absent from the sequel is Russell Crowe, the lead in the first “Gladiator,” as his character met his demise in the initial installment. The original film achieved immense success, securing an Oscar for Best Picture.
